Let's be clear, because this is the source of most of the misunderstandings we see during scoping. Odoo, in its Enterprise version with the French localization enabled, handles French accounting well: Plan Comptable Général, VAT returns, balance sheet, income statement, and generation of the Fichier des Écritures Comptables (FEC). When reading the official documentation, you will even find a section dedicated to the tax package via an integration with Teledec. From there to thinking that Odoo produces the tax package is only a short step, and it is taken very often, sometimes right up to the start of the project.
01 Odoo prepares the accounting, but does not produce the tax package
The technical reality is more nuanced. Odoo Enterprise, including version 19 released in September 2025 at the Odoo Experience in Brussels, does not generate the official forms 2050 to 2059, nor the EDI-TDFC file format required by the tax authorities for electronic filing. What Odoo does provide is the raw material: trial balance, financial statements, FEC, detailed entries, which specialised tools or accounting firms then use to produce and electronically file the tax package.
This is neither a hidden weakness nor an oddity: it is the case for almost all general-purpose ERPs in France, because the tax package is a regulated object standardised by the association EDIFICAS, whose edition changes every year. The 2026 edition (V2026.3) moreover introduces 313 new reporting boxes, mainly linked to the reform of the Plan Comptable Général arising from ANC regulation n°2022-06, applicable to financial years opened from 1 January 2025. Following this standard with a dedicated EDI certification is a profession in itself, which Odoo chose not to internalise: a rational choice, not a limitation.
The most costly misunderstanding we see is the company that discovers in April, just before the filing deadline, that Odoo does not produce the file its accounting firm expects. The question should have been settled during the initial accounting scoping. Our conviction: the tax package is not a detail to be sorted out at the end of the project, it is an architectural decision to make from the start, just like VAT or bank exports.
02 What Odoo actually covers to prepare the tax package
Once the confusion is cleared up, one important point remains: Odoo covers most of what is needed to prepare the tax package, and that is a lot. The tax package, strictly speaking, is the set of standardised forms filed each year with the DGFiP by companies under the real regime: 2050 to 2059 (normal real regime), 2033 (simplified real regime), 2031 (BIC under IR), 2035 (BNC), 2065 (IS). Micro-entrepreneurs have no tax package; their turnover is declared on form 2042 C-PRO. These documents rely entirely on accounting data produced and maintained in Odoo.
Concretely, Odoo 19 with the French localization handles:
- the complete French chart of accounts;
- journals and accounting entries with their traceability;
- year-end closing (periods left open after closing, with every change being tracked);
- financial statements: balance sheet, income statement, intermediate management balances;
- VAT returns (monthly or quarterly CA3, annual CA12);
- generation of the FEC in the regulatory format expected in case of an audit.
The FEC is the cornerstone of the chain: it allows a tax package tool or an accounting firm to reconstruct all entries. A clean FEC on the Odoo side means 80% of the preparatory work is done.
On the electronic filing side, Odoo goes even further thanks to the ecosystem of the Odoo Community Association (OCA) and the publisher Akretion: modules make it possible to file the VAT return electronically via EDI through the approved partner Teledec. However, be careful not to confuse two different things: VAT is a monthly or quarterly flow, operationally simple; the tax package is an annual, structuring event that requires tax adjustments (reintegrations, deductions, provisions, fixed assets, tax credits) that the ERP does not master and is not meant to master.
03 The three possible architectures, and our reading
Once it is established that Odoo prepares but does not file electronically, three architectures emerge. The right choice depends on the company's profile and its relationship with its chartered accountant.
1 · The accounting firm
(recommended by default)
You give access to your Odoo accounting (read-only or periodic FEC export); the firm produces the tax package with its EDI-certified software (Cegid, RCA, Cogilog, ACD…). The most rational option for an SME without a full in-house accounting department: the firm absorbs the complexity of the annual edition and of the adjustments.
2 · The standalone tax package tool
Teledec, Edifiscale or Net Déclaration import Odoo trial balances (Excel, CSV or FEC) and produce the complete tax package with electronic filing via EDI-TDFC. Relevant for an in-house accounting function with an accountant/CFO who masters the adjustments and wants to keep control of the timeline.
3 · The hybrid Odoo + Teledec
The option put forward by the Odoo documentation, via the dedicated integration modules. Makes sense to stay within the Odoo environment without multiplying tools. A caveat: it depends on Teledec's coverage, to be validated according to your regime and specifics (group consolidation, tax credits, complex fixed assets).
04 The regulatory calendar you need to know
The tax package is a regulatory framework that evolves every year: EDIFICAS publishes a new edition defining forms, boxes and the TDFC dictionary. For the current campaign, the window is precise and tight.
Last day for accepting submissions for the 2025 edition.
Technical interruption of the TDFC servers.
Official opening of the 2026 edition campaign
Deadline for financial years closed on 31 December 2025 — less than seven weeks of effective window. Shifted financial years: filing within 3 months and 15 days after closing.
In substance, electronic filing is no longer an option: all companies under the real regime are obliged to file the tax package electronically with the DGFiP, via EDI-TDFC (EDIFICAS approved partner) or, depending on the case, in EFI mode. Paper filing is only allowed as an exception. This framework, set by article 1649 quater B quater of the CGI, leaves no room for improvisation: the question is no longer whether to file electronically, but how to automate the chain.
05 The method we apply during scoping
1 · Who produces the tax package?
An organisational question, not a software question. « Our accountant » → the architecture is set, the issue becomes the data transfer (FEC export). « We internalise » → trade-off between architectures 2 and 3, with an accountant trained in adjustments.
2 · Validate the quality of the FEC
The ultimate test of the chain. We ask for a test FEC export mid-year, reviewed by the accounting firm or the target tool. Anomalies (truncated labels, incorrectly mapped auxiliary accounts, inconsistent dates) are fixed within a few hours during the financial year, not in March-April.
3 · Configure the French localization
The reliability of the tax package depends on the configuration: suitable chart of accounts, VAT accounts properly linked, structured fixed assets, separate journals. The PCG reform of 1 January 2025 (disposals of fixed assets removed from exceptional income) makes this point even more decisive. We involve the accountant from the implementation stage.
4 · Anticipate the year-end closing
Odoo leaves periods open after closing, with traceability, flexible but demanding in discipline. We recommend setting a final closing date after which no more entries are posted, and sticking to it.
06 Limits and points of attention
The risk of desynchronisation
Extracting a FEC at a given point in time, sending it, then correcting an entry in Odoo: your tax package no longer reflects your accounting. Strict closing discipline is a compliance requirement. To keep for ten years: EDI acknowledgements, PDF exports of the tax package, supporting documents.
Non-accounting tax adjustments
Tax reintegrations, extra-accounting deductions, deviating depreciation, provisions, tax credits: these operations belong to the tax profession, not the accounting one, and no ERP produces them automatically. That is why entrusting the tax package to an accountant remains relevant, even for well-equipped organisations.
The evolution of the Odoo offer
Odoo registered as an Approved Platform (PA) with the DGFiP in April 2026 for business-to-business electronic invoicing: the publisher is investing in the French tax ecosystem. Native coverage of the tax package could evolve, but in the current state of Odoo 19, it is better to reason based on what Odoo does today. Following release notes is sound practice for an integrator.
Key takeaways
The Odoo + tax package chain is mature and well equipped, provided it is properly scoped from the start.
Odoo 19 does not produce the tax package in EDI-TDFC format: this is not a flaw, but an architectural choice to be organised.
Odoo covers most of the preparatory work: a clean FEC represents more than half of the value produced.
For most SMEs, outsourcing to a well-equipped accountant remains the most rational architecture.
For in-house accounting, Teledec, Edifiscale or Net Déclaration cleanly close the chain.
The quality of the tax package is determined in the initial configuration: involve the accountant from the implementation stage.
