A brewery, a meat processor, and an ingredient manufacturer share the same ERP reality: recipes that move from one batch to another, traceability that must work the day it is needed, and a shelf life that determines order preparation. The configuration, however, has nothing to do with it.
The recall, your true test of fire
A product recall is not judged by the quality of your quality binder, it is judged by the time it takes you to answer three questions: which batches of raw materials are involved, which finished products contain them, and which customers have been delivered.
In Odoo, each movement carries its batch number: supplier receipt, production consumption, finished product packaging, customer shipping. Traceability works both ways. You start from a batch of material and you get the list of pallets and concerned customers. You start from a customer complaint and you trace back to the supplier batch, then to all other products made with that same batch.
What makes the difference is not the functionality, it is native. It is the discipline of data entry upstream and the quality of the base data. That is why we systematically integrate a mock recall exercise in the recipe, before going into production. If the exercise takes more than an hour, the configuration is not complete.
Best before date, use by date and exit of the nearest expired
Each batch has its dates: manufacturing, shelf life, alert date, withdrawal date. Odoo relies on this to apply a first expired out rather than a simple first in first out, which is the industry rule and not an option.
Two points that the demonstrations gloss over and that often decide the project.
The remaining shelf life required by your customers. Retailers contract a fraction of residual shelf life at delivery. A compliant batch for one customer may be rejected by another. This rule is set by customer and by reference, and it is decided before commissioning, not after a dispute.
The blockage at shipping. A stock that has exceeded its withdrawal date must not be able to leave. This is conceived with a quarantine location and a blocking rule, Odoo not having a "blocked" status on the stock itself.
Allergens, shared lines, and sequencing
When several recipes go through the same line, the manufacturing order is not neutral: it determines the risk of cross-contamination and the necessary cleaning between two batches. Concretely, this translates into attributes on your items, sequencing rules in planning, and cleaning control points between batches, traced like the rest.
Regulatory labeling remains your responsibility and that of your quality service. What an ERP provides is the certainty that the displayed composition corresponds to the recipe actually executed on this batch.
Quality and audits, what your auditor will ask you
No software is HACCP certified, because HACCP is a risk analysis method specific to your business, not a software standard. What an ERP provides is proof: defined control points at the critical stages you have identified, measurements with their tolerances, real-time alerts, and the complete history of movements.
Whether you are audited on IFS Food, BRCGS, FSSC 22000, or ISO 22000, the questions are the same: was the control done, by whom, when, with what value, and what did you do when it failed. The same batch records feed traceability and the audit file, which avoids maintaining two parallel systems.

EDI with your distributors, with our own connector
When you deliver to a brand or a purchasing center, it is they who impose the format of orders, shipping notices, and invoices. The usual response from an integrator is a specific development by partner. We did it differently: we publish our own EDI connector for Odoo, the Nalios EDI Connector, published on the Odoo Apps Store.
The channels, from file uploads on the server to secure exchanges with acknowledgment of receipt, and the formats, including EDIFACT used by distribution, are configured instead of developed. An order file becomes an order with all its lines, and each exchange is tracked, with a one-click follow-up on a rejected message.
The real work focuses on the correspondence between your item codes and those of your client, on the identifiers of pallets, and on what we do when a message is rejected. This is where we come in.
